Summer Blues

July.

I am not sure if I like the month.  June has a fun, relaxing feel. It’s warm and school has just gotten out. Most sports have ended and you ignore your alarm clock. In general, there is a happy vibe amongst the family. August looks like one big checklist you are trying to get through. There is a need to fulfill last minute summer bucket list items, go back to school shopping, clean out the kids’ rooms, and get doctor appointments taken care of.  It’s a taskmaster type of month. But July falls between the fun and the obligations.

July is HOT.

It peaks early with the 4th of July celebrations. It’s the middle month of summer and if you don’t plan vacations and camps just right, it can feel endless. The kids are getting snarky with their siblings and moms are over being cruise directors. The kids are bored.  I’m bored. We all need some social interaction with people other than family! Yes, I adore my kids, yada yada, but I really don’t want to talk any more about the You Tube channel they want to create that I am never allowing them to have! Go outside! But… there is a heat wave. Ugh. So we start counting the days until all the “fun” is over.

It makes me a little sad.

I feel like I should be better; more like the perfect, social media moms who have it all together.  They tackle daily chores, reading time, fun activities, and family movie night all while being perfectly dressed for the occasion.  (I can’t even convince myself to dry my hair because like I stated before, it’s SO HOT.) Personally, I find all those social media moms annoying. Maybe I am just jealous.  But I bet they secretly have a back to school countdown too.

Summer Blues.

So around here we are in the middle of the summer blues. We have a ton to be grateful for and have done some fun stuff!  (I’m not that much of a slacker!) But the days are getting long and we are quickly losing steam.  I’m planning to dig deep over the next few weeks to see if we can turn it around! Everyone loves a comeback! Its National Ice Cream Day today… so we will start with that! The weather is turning cooler this week, so we’re hoping to have a little pep back in our step and put the school countdown on the back burner. But in case you are singing the summer blues too, you have 30 days to go!
